Bunchberry colony

Bunchberry, aka dwarf dogwood (Cornus canadensis), in Maine this summer. The berries are edible and despite its size, it's closely related to the dogwood tree. Here's a photo of a bunchberry in flower that I took in my college Woodland Plants of Northern Wisconsin class.

Wind Turbines from the Basin

These three wind turbines were erected last fall on Vinalhaven. Some of the people who live near the site have been complaining about the noise, but most of the islanders are happy with the turbines because of the lower electricity bills. Personally, I'm thrilled about them because of the environmental benefits.
